E-AI: 50 Quebec Businesses and Organizations Create the First Community Representing the Entertainment and AI Industries of Tomorrow

Kick-off event to be held June 14 and 15 in Montreal

Montreal, April 5, 2022

Every day, artificial intelligence redefines the limits of innovation and technology. And every day, the entertainment industry pushes the boundaries of imagination and creativity. Together, they transform our lives and invite us to dream with them. Now, more than 50 Quebec companies, organizations, business people and entrepreneurs from the entertainment and artificial intelligence (AI) industries are pooling their strengths to form the international community E-AI. This new business-to-business (B2B) platform will generate and expand business and creative opportunities involving these two industries in the form of alliances, collaborations, innovations, commercialization, financing, etc. In addition, E-Al will provide a unique showcase for research and sharing expertise.

“In recent months, the community has shown an unprecedented level of mobilization and enthusiasm for E-AI. Local companies have to seize development opportunities now, and we want to play an active role in positioning Quebec as a global leader in the intersection of artificial intelligence and entertainment,” explains Stéphane Martel, Co-founder, and Executive Producer at E-AI.

E-AI’s member organizations include top technical and creative names like Moment Factory, Behaviour Interactive, Moov AI, The 7 Fingers, Ivado, Images et Technologie, Centre Phi and SAT. Joining them are a few companies whose participation in this area might come as a surprise, including National Bank, the Palais des congrès de Montréal and legal firm Lavery Lawyers.

Strengthening ties to work better together

As Marie-Josée Corbeil of the National Bank sees it, both the entertainment and AI communities will benefit from this closer collaboration. “Drawing on the remarkable experience, expertise and diversity of its members and partners, E-Al will enable the two ecosystems to join forces to enrich business content and foster innovation.”

Jobs and business models are evolving, and the research community has to work more closely with the private sector than ever, according to Brigitte Monneau of Synthèse – Pôle Image Québec. “AI is disrupting the entertainment industry. It’s a profound change, and the keys to its success are ongoing dialogue between industry players and the development of collaborative initiatives.” Denys Lavigne of Oasis Immersion welcomes the creation of a forum where players from the two industries can come together to share their views and expertise. “E-AI will help us leverage new avenues of innovation that can really benefit our creation activities,” he notes.

An historic event

To commemorate its founding, E-AI will present #EAI2022 on June 14 and 15. The first edition of this yearly public event will feature presentations, round tables, and networking opportunities with a focus on solutions and potential applications. A program of activities designed to address today’s issues will be presented in a hybrid format (in-person and online) at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, the event’s co-producer and co-organizer.
