Destiny Tchéhouali

Professor/Co-chair at UQAM/UNESCO



Destiny Tchéhouali is a professor of international communication at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM) and co-holder of the Unesco Chair in Communication and Technologies for Development. His research focuses on the governance/regulation of the Internet, AI and algorithms; the social acceptability and application of emerging technological innovations in different development domains (particularly in the cultural and creative industries). His current work examines the impact of digital platforms and recommendation systems on discoverability and online consumption of a variety of content. Destiny is also President of the Scientific Council of the Agence francophone pour l’intelligence artificielle (AFRIA) and President of the Board of Directors of the Internet Society’s Quebec Chapter (ISOC Quebec).

The UNESCO Chair in Communication and Technologies for Development at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) is an extension of the policy adopted in 1989 by the General Council of UNESCO, which aims to promote democratic cultures and the development of media infrastructures, free expression, pluralism in the processing of information and respect for human rights. The development of new communication models is increasingly essential for new international balances and new freedoms. In this context, the UNESCO Chair aims at decompartmentalization and multidisciplinarity in the following areas of research, expertise and intervention Access to information and communication technologies (ICT) Social uses of ICTs Communication and international development National information policies Institutional/organizational communication Media development and management The UNESCO Chair is part of the Network of UNESCO Chairs in Communication, the ORBICOM Network, whose international secretariat has been based at UQAM since its founding in 1994. This network includes 33 UNESCO Chairs in communication around the world and 250 associate members from academia, industry and professional circles on all continents.
